Cutting the Apron Strings: A Rite of Passage for Mothers with Adult Children

They warned that the years with our children go fast, but it still can catch us off guard. There’s no handbook or set of guidelines to help us gradually let go of the reins as our children grow older and transition to adulthood. Often we fumble along and are guided by our child’s irritation when we hover too close. The process involves a strange mix of grief and joy as we celebrate their successes that ultimately make motherhood, as we have experienced it, obsolete.

In this space we will feel all the feelings and consciously consider how we want to relate both to our adult children and ourselves in this next chapter of life.
