POSTPARTUM
SUPPORT
GROUP

For women who want to create intention around motherhood and need emotional support through matrescence.

Becoming mothers together

Becoming a mother isn’t just something you just do physically. It is a deeply personal transitional process called matrescence. You are learning a new way of being in the world. If you’d like to face this transition with intention and the support of a like-minded community, you’ve found the right place. This postpartum support group is for women who want to create intention around their motherhood journey and recognize their need for emotional support during their postpartum phase.

In our increasingly individualistic culture, women are expected to find their own way as a mother, which often results in disappointment, overwhelm, shame, or isolation. You need the support of others going through this transition as well as the wisdom of those who have gone before you. We were never meant to do this alone!

I worked as a birth doula for 15 years prior to becoming a therapist and have supported hundreds of families through this transition. I combine my knowledge of birth and postpartum experiences with my psychological training to create a nurturing and healing environment for new mothers to find their own unique way. In this group, you will have a safe place to:

  • Discuss common postpartum experiences

  • Identify with others who experience similar struggles

  • Explore how you can stay true to yourself as your role changes

  • Manage expectations of yourself as a mother and your postpartum experience

  • Navigate changes in your relationships

A special note about difficult birth experiences and postpartum mood disorders:

It is increasingly common for women to have varying levels of trauma from their birth experiences. There is an expectation that women will bring that pain into their postpartum journey and need a place to process it. These themes will certainly come up in our group but are not the focus of the group. It may be necessary for you to schedule a private birth processing session or two if you need additional support with negative feelings from your birth. Likewise, this group will be an ideal place for a mother who is struggling to find her footing in this new role. If you are experiencing postpartum depression or anxiety, you may benefit more from private sessions or a combination of both group and private sessions. If you are unsure where you fit, let’s set up a time to talk and discuss what the best path forward is for you.
