How I Practice Therapy

A trusting relationship is the foundation of the work we do together. I create a warm, non-judgmental environment for clients of all backgrounds to explore their emotional and mental health. I am inclusive, affirming, committed to cultural humility, and trust that you know more about your lived experience than I do. I want you to feel safe to be who you are and talk about the things you need to without fear of judgment or rejection.

Beyond listening, I have questions, comments, and observations that may help us dig deeper to understand the problem more fully. My desire is to understand who you are and what is going on under the surface so we can deal with the root of your challenges.

I believe early childhood experiences create foundational patterns of interacting with the world and others, and I seek to explore how these patterns might contribute to your current problems and life dissatisfaction. This process often involves experiencing grief around your unmet needs, along with insight into how you might be trying to meet those needs and protect your vulnerable parts through your current behavior. This isn't easy and it isn't a quick fix, but in the end you will create a greater sense of integrity and authenticity.

Creating awareness around these patterns will allow you, with practice, to disentangle yourself from automatic responses and make more intentional choices. Sometimes clients may benefit from more intensive help to overcome difficult experiences and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a powerful tool to bring closure to those wounds.

All therapy services are available in person or by telehealth. I meet with clients in my office on Beverly Blvd. in Los Angeles, at Village Birth in Pasadena, or we can meet via telehealth for anyone that resides in California. A sliding scale is available for those who have demonstrated financial need. Please take a moment to read through my areas of focus that might apply to your needs.

I am considered an out-of-network provider by insurance companies. Some insurance companies will issue the client a reimbursement to cover a portion of the cost of sessions. If you would like to use your insurance, please contact your insurance or employee benefits provider and check your coverage carefully by asking the following questions:

  • Do I have mental health insurance benefits?

  • What is my deductible and has it been met?

  • How many sessions per year does my health insurance cover?

  • What is the coverage amount per therapy session?

  • Is approval required from my primary care physician?

  • Will my health insurance cover treatment with an associate marriage and family therapist?
