PHILOSOPHY

How I Practice Therapy

During a typical session, we'll engage in open and insightful conversations, exploring your thoughts and emotions. Beyond listening, I have questions, comments, and observations that may help us dig deeper to understand the problem more fully. My desire is to understand who you are and what is going on under the surface so we can deal with the root of your challenges.

I believe early childhood experiences create foundational patterns of interacting with the world and others, and I seek to explore how these patterns might contribute to your current problems and life dissatisfaction. This process can be scary and it's often not easy. It takes a lot of courage. Wrestling with your shadow produces lasting change and will create a greater sense of integrity and authenticity that leads to healthier relationships and a better life.

Sometimes clients may benefit from more intensive help to overcome difficult experiences and traumas. EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a powerful tool I like to use to bring closure to those wounds and to shift negative beliefs about yourself.

I am inclusive and affirming and committed to cultural humility & anti-racism.

All therapy services are available in person or by telehealth. I meet with clients in my office on Beverly Blvd. in Los Angeles or California residents can meet via telehealth. A select number of sliding scale are available for those who have demonstrated financial need.

I see all types of clients, but I do have some areas of focus. Please take a moment to read through the areas of focus that might apply to your needs.

DANA NASSAU

Associate Marriage and Family Therapist, #134774

My journey of self-discovery began as I was a young mother, struggling to find my way and make sense of my life experiences. While I’d like to say I have it all figured out, the truth is that life is messy and people are complicated. Self-discovery is a long process and I’m on the road for life. I may have special training and experience, but ultimately, I’m just another human on the journey who is inspired by our potential for growth, healing, and transformation. I see myself as a compassionate and curious companion on your journey, helping explore how your life experiences impact the way you show up in your life and in your relationships and helping you find your path to wholeness.

Things to know about me:

I bring maternal energy into the therapy space. I have three children and have a nurturing, supportive presence. That being said, sometimes mom needs to be firm or directive and I don't struggle to bring that kind of energy when needed.

I was a birth doula for 15 years and was deeply impacted by the profound moments of vulnerability and strength I witnessed during childbirth. I wouldn’t be the therapist I am today without the families that invited me to be part of these sacred moments.

I was diagnosed with ADHD in my mid-forties. This means you get the benefit of my hyperfocus, curiosity, and outside-of-the-box thinking.

If you would like to use your insurance, please contact your insurance or employee benefits provider and check your coverage carefully by asking the following questions:

  • Do I have mental health insurance benefits?

  • What is my deductible and has it been met?

  • How many sessions per year does my health insurance cover?

  • What is the coverage amount per therapy session?

  • Is approval required from my primary care physician?

  • Will my health insurance cover treatment with an associate marriage and family therapist?
